First time riding with the crew? Here's everything you need to show up right, from boots to saddle bags, we got you covered.
Showing up to your first trail ride is a big deal. You want to look right, ride right, and be prepared. Here's what you need to know before you saddle up.
Boots come first. You need a proper western boot with a heel. This is non-negotiable for safety in the stirrups. Avoid sneakers or athletic shoes entirely. A good pair of Ariat or Justin boots will serve you well for years.
For pants, wear proper riding jeans or breeches. Regular denim works but can rub. Wrangler makes a line specifically designed for riders that most of the community swears by.
On top, you want something breathable. Many trail rides happen in summer heat across the South. A moisture-wicking long sleeve shirt protects you from sun and brush. Western-style shirts look right and feel right on the trail.
Bring a hat. A proper cowboy hat or a wide-brim hat for sun protection. You'll be out for hours.
For saddle bags, bring: water, snacks, a first-aid kit, your phone, and cash. Most rides end with food and vendors, and you'll want to support the Black-owned businesses at the finish.
Above all: respect the trail, respect the elders, and ride proud.
